Once the engineers have chosen the plank size, the Spancrete machine is prepared while the strands are precisely laid in position. Tension is then applied with many tons of force pretensioning the strands.
The Spancrete extruder simultaneously places 3 layers of zero slump concrete, forming a monolithic, high-strength plank.
Once the proper concrete release strength is achieved, the plank is cut to the desired length. Spancrete machines can produce planks capable of spanning over 18m/60ft in length.
